Quad Mech Quick Sketch by Shimmering-Sword Quad Mech Quick Sketch by Shimmering-Sword
A quick sketch requested by viewers at the end of last nights stream. Demoing my concept sketching at high speed, though I have drawn mechs similar to this many years back.

A large quad mech made to field MCCs, Magnetic Compression Cannons. A somewhat crude but powerful combination of conventional propellant accelerated projectiles, aided by an additional magnetic rail.
The penetrating power afforded by such high velocity rounds make them effective in open areas, creating dead zones for ground control.
Though slow, these quad mechs are very nimble, able to maneuver their guns even at close range and reach vantage points other fire support systems cannot access.

Shimmering Sword, I think your artwork is amazing. I have been looking at all of your mech and power armor sketches and they don't even compare to the other ones I have seen. If I make a movie I would totally use these concepts :P

I like this design, too often we see quadruped mecha either based on cat/hound leg structure or flat and spider like, this one takes the cake in that it offers that high rise effect so many lack. I'd like to see you embellish this design more.

Funny, I drew up an idea for something sort of similar, but a much smaller tank killer. Those eyes make me want to see some sort of chibi version.. I don't know why.

Honestly, sweet mech. I love that nasty little cannon. Whatever that puts a hole in will regret it immediately.

A small version of it could totally fight on the Cartel side in HL2:Ep3 ^^

Nice job as always.

Quad mech, Yes, that's the proper term, rather than 4 legged mech :)

You really can't stop throwing great ideas out there can you!

Coupla questions bout your concept, whats the fire angle on the Y to Z also what is the fire rate and magazine capacity?

Hehe. Like it's elevation firing angle? It's not howitzer status or anything, but it has fair articulation, which is supplemented by the mechs flexibility in the torso and limbs.
If rapid fire is needed the gun can be fired propellants only, about 4 second reloads. Haven't decided on capacitor charging rates for my story, so for now lets just say 8sec for a rail accelerated one.
Mag capacity, dunno, a lot :D It's got a very bulky torso to hold plenty, so it can loiter in kill positions for a long time without resupply.

This is for a story? Are those reference pieces? I am gunna subscribe to what ever chian your writing on!!
Thought about an aviation unit yet?
or a small infantry bot, I used something called a L.I.N.U.X killbot Linear.Indentification.Nexus.Utility.Exterminator a small 1/8 scale tank-esk robot with a machine gun. I used that concept in one of my stories and I'd be happy to see you use it.
It was used as a swarm of hive linked bots that would flood a battle field using high powered motors and a complex sensor array to identify bunkers, targets and strategic areas then switch to agressive and use that information along with their .50 burst fire weapon to reak havok or explode with a 3 pound charge of C4 near a large concetration of enemies when it ran out of ammo. Imagine 3-500 of those things roaming a battlesite eh?

They are for a story of mine, but it's all in my head right now.
You're right I'm lacking in the airforce sector right now :P
For my story I'll mostly be avoiding certain technologies (even if they are already being developed) that upset the classic style of infantry and armor combat. Things like drones, nanotech, and such. Just a style choice I guess.

No probs dude, my story was tech versus human on a 'Not so bad' terminator style spin off. Hope you put it on paper!

win, but the gun looks like an 88, and the armour evokes a German half-track.

So it's an 88 the size of the Yamatos main gun, with mag rails built into the barrel, mounted on a half-track with legs :D

sorry, it's just there's no scale indicators, except maybe the chin turret, which I assumed was an anti-personnel weapon, certainly no larger than 20mm, which makes the main gun about 88 sized.
I think the Wehrmacht stylings are pretty cool, anyway.

Yea it's true, I didn't make this ones scale properly apparent. But huge is my intention none the less.
