Now I am in no way, shape or form knowledgable in Mecha warfare. but wouldnt a close combat weapon be sort of useless on something that size?

Well if you consider the weight of the axe and the weight and force of the mech wielding it, should the mech for some reason find itself face to face with something it would work. Crushing/smashing force, not so much cutting. A generally agree though, melee weapons on mechs is a bit silly.

point. And if we were to assue that the axe is viable, I wouldnt design the head like that. The crest makes it blindingly obvious that this mech has an axe.
I would have made it look more like other mechs, in the hope of camouflaging the fact that I has the axe of awesome. ;)

All this aside; your art rocks on toast!
