Headquarters Guardby *Shimmering-Sword

The second piece commissioned in order to spice up the menus of MekHQ. I haven't done a whole lot of clear daylight paintings as they're more challenging, so I'm working on executing more of them. 3D base lighting helped a lot though.

A Bandersnatch and Fafnir stand guard over their command headquarters. Who likes reasonably sized heavy gauss rifle barrels?

I notice a lot of people commenting on the Fafnir, but personally, I think that Bandersnatch redesign is just the tits. I mean, maybe I would have kept the shoulder bits and a little less square torso. But everything -- and I do mean everything -- else about it is fantastic.
Especially anything below the torso actuator. Which is to say; them's some fantastic legs.

I think it's simply that the Fafnir is in Mechwarrior and the Bandersnatch isn't. The commissioner wanted pretty heavy changes on the Bander, so I didn't try too much to maintain some of the key details. I think he only liked it's fluff as a merc mech, not so much the look

I think the Fafnir has been my absolute favourite mech to play* in the games so far - two HGauss and 2 Clan ER PPCs really mess up anyone's day. Fantastic renditions of both mechs, especially the cockpit details!

I'm glad I stumbled over your work!

*(NB: this does not include the snow level on MW3, where you could load a Daishi with about 15 ER L Lasers and become a walking, insanely powerful and accurate gatling gun with no ammo or heat concerns...)

Hey Shimmering Sword, I'm a huge BattleTech fan, and I'm vastly amazed by your art work here. I was wondering, If you can do a picture of just the Fafnir, exactly as you've drawn him here? I really like how you choose to design him, I especially like the texture and armor. It would be nice to see more of it. See him in action, and maybe from behind or inside the cabin.
