Ground Attack Fighter by Shimmering-Sword Ground Attack Fighter by Shimmering-Sword
Sxey pulled me into an oc, so I whipped this out. I'm trying to get out of this B&W mood, so I have a more refined project in the works that I hope to finish soon.

Mid weight fighter bomber, thrust vectoring and mini jets allow for space flight and first strike 'jump in' deployment.
Shown model is mounting an anti tank cannon, light auto cannon, and an assortment of anti ground and multi purpose missiles.
Can also haul heavier ordinances or 'mission packages' under central fuselage.

If that's a fighter, I don't want to meet a bomber...

Ah, lots of fighters!! :) I want a space fighter. I've got to tear myself away from all this so I can go practice drawing jet fighters... XD

Looks too unwieldy to really serve a fighter role... but DAMN I feel sorry for anything it spots on the ground!

Do you do your art with pencil?
And how on earth do you get everything in perspective? (I can't D:)

I do all my work digitally with a wacom tablet. I guess I got a good start on perspective by taking drafting classes in high school, and I've always drawn lots of mechs.

If you're serious about being a digital painter get an Intuos4 Medium. If you're unsure yet or wont paint a lot, or are short on money, get a Bamboo Medium.

Ah, yeah I wouldn't recommend the Cintiq screens, they are overpriced and come with their own disadvantages for the only gain of drawing on screen. I'd rather spend all that money on a large dual screen setup and a nice Intuos4.

yeah, they are pretty expensive.
but i can't draw on something where you can't see the screen,
so i don't really know what else to go for.

That's the good part about the intuos, none of your hand blocks the screen, and you'll get used to not looking at your hand. For good painting a large screen also helps a lot, and none of the Cintiq models are very big (I'm using two 24in screens).

just an observation but: it's a badass ground attack plane, going to fly low is kick butt yes? but since it flies low, ground fire can hit mini wings behind the cockpit and pieces of those mini fins could go inside the intake of the engine. just an observation but i think ground attack planes should have something with this in mind. still a sexy plane though.

Might be an issue, thought engines are pretty resilient. Glad you like it.

aircraft engines are quite deliacte actually. small pieces of metal can be ingested and cause from blade damage to catastrophic failure of internal components. the fan blades are precisely manufactured and balanced with each other. nicks and scratches can throw this off. since there are alot of parts spinning at extreme speeds on the inside, this imbalance can cause a severe vibration and that can cause failure of several components and so forth.

it's a mega snowball effect with the whole thing. which is why ground attack fighters like the A-10 have their engine mounted upward and encased in thick armor.

Wow, that's a pretty awesome fighter concept. What did you use to draw it? Cuz it is pretty clean compared to artwork I've seen that appears to use the same materials.

Good work once again :D

The effect is all in the sketching technique I use. The tools are as basic as they come, so which program isn't such an issue for me.

Haha, I feel ya. I do vehicles when I don't have time (or wont spend time) to do a mech, they just take way longer, mostly due to design decisions.
