Dust and Smoke by Shimmering-Sword Dust and Smoke by Shimmering-Sword
A quick painting from my new years live stream, more Elementalzzz for the masses.

Now for some of that classic technical stammering, if not completely related to this image.
Elementals skilled in the Mass discipline of shield manipulation are able to apply forces to the materials around them. The combat application of this ability is often limited to defense against solid projectiles and making close range attacks.
In the desert or any location with abundant loose and light materials, top ground layers can be almost explosively forced up, creating a small artificial sand storm. Caught in the open against numerous forces, this decision to change the playing field can aid the Elemental in switching from a defensive ranged stance to an up close melee.

My goodness, I was actually a little disappointed to find that I had already faved this. :D It's so great with the shading and the  design. If for some reason the earth ever becomes uninhabitable due to biological intoxication, I really want you to design Earth's hazmat suits so we can all look this BA.

You seem to have done a fair amount of thinking about the mechanics behind these guys'/gals' armor (which I always appreciate, being myself a CS major and avowed tinkerer)- what's the purpose behind the head fins?

It's also nice to see someone come up with female armor that isn't just a bikini version of the guys' equipment. (Oh, and thanks for the llama!)

The fins "idea" is just to be cool, but it's easily explained as sensors :)

This thing is awesome (as always)

Excuse me if i become a nuisance for always suggesting my opinion (i totally understand if you dont like it and ask me to discontinue) but it always seems the helmets are super ornamental compared to the body armor which is relatively flat, maybe some shoulder armor made in a similar style as the helmet is in order? also the gender seems a bit ambiguous in this image. if it's male i would (obviously) recommend flattening the chest a bit, but if it's a female i think the muscular build should be a little bit smaller and the chest plate should that extends forward a bit should be raised.

again, as always, i cant wait to see more work so i can annoy you again =P

Critique is always important, even if it's not utilized it keeps the artist on his toes :)
I try to maintain a balance in ornamentation, as I want the armor to look unique (and the head intimidating) but I also want it to be practical and utilitarian. Having details everywhere also makes reproduction of the design a pain :D

Do they come in both suits or female only?

The development program has all females. Other derivative armors that come from it have males.

The elemental requires an AI that you must grow very close to in order to unlock it's full potential. Sure it's not a legitimate excuse for exclusive female use, but you can see why they would handle it better :)

I like the slightly rendered shoulder pad best, it's simplicity is very appealing. And round brushes are the best, they're all I use. :3 Aaaaaaand... long time no chat?! Are you ever on Live? ... are we Live friends? I'm hardly on 'cause I got Skyrim for the PS3 .___.
