Designed Opposition by Shimmering-Sword Designed Opposition by Shimmering-Sword
People keep asking what can possibly face off against an Elemental. The unique thing about Elementals compared to other combat units is that their power scales up massively as they develop in skill, so what is appropriate to counter one is always changing. For any Elemental Tier2 or below (no fully solidified shielding) this bio neural mech will be an even if not a lethal opponent.

A Biological Synthetic, Neurologically Controlled mech, or Bio Neural mech. Using highly articulated limbs of synthetic muscle controlled by a connected pilot, it can move around much more nimbly than a conventional combat mech.
This model has been specifically designed to combat opposing shielded units, most notably Elementals. It comes standard with a battery of shield generators and it's large reactor gives them great power considering their often low tier of development (dependant on the pilot).
The back unit can be swapped out for different weapons and equipment. Shown load out is 2 Railguns, 4 missile pods, and arm mounted pile launchers. Hand held weapons are also commonly used.
Dense ballistic projectiles have the highest success against low tier Elementals. Against experienced foes counter shield generating rounds may be used, but these are costly as they consume valuable shield generator material. Controlled frangible or airburst rounds are also effective if they can penetrate all shield layers before breaking up. Group tactics also greatly increase success by crossing vectors of fire, making it harder for a target to evade.
This units main value is in it's survivability though. When an Elemental encounters a foe that it cannot easily kill it's momentum is suppressed, unable to freely move around the battlefield to pick targets. Occupying the Elemental in a prolonged engagement keeps the heat off of other forces.

Man! Can I make a suggestion?

If so, then...you should do a fighting scene where a high-tier pilot with one of these fights a high-tier Elemental! I think that'd be awesome. Or just have a high-tier pilot.

If you know what a pile driver is, then think of launching piles :D

*Blink*

...But a pile driver is called that because it drives piles, pillars, pikes, and other building-related material into the ground. So it's just a fancy way of saying it's a mass driver? O_o And if so, isn't that the same thing as a Railgun? Both are accelerating mass to high velocity in order to deliver excessive kinetic energy on target. Unless the "pile launcher" uses a different motive mechanism than electromagnetism, in which case I could see the difference.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I likes me the idea of guns that shoot giant spikes of tungsten at high mach numbers, but when you've got that AND railguns, it just seems redundant. *Shrugs*

There are a lot of weapons that fire shells using chemical propellants, but they aren't all under the same name :)
It's firing a specific munition (high diameter and length) at lower velocity than a normal rail or gauss rifle. It really is launching piles.

I can understand that, but "pile launcher" just sounds like a piece of construction equipment. ;p I get the image those things on its arms are like stake launchers from a Van Helsing comic. ;p

But I'm a nitpicky asshole sometimes, so take what you will from it.

Annoying little feller for those elementals he is!
I can imagine the guy constantly distracting the elementals from less capable targets, immediatly going infront of the elemental as it tries to go for another target :P
But the best thing against an elemental is another elemental, right?
fire with fire..

Yeah, but they're mostly unique to one faction. Each faction having their own type of elite units.

If these elementals are so powerful at a high level and faction specific why havent they just annihilated the other factions? Great drawing by the way.

The high powered ones are very few, most will only deliver the firepower of a single tank/mech and can be killed. Take their overall limited numbers, that they're only good in a fight and not garrison, and what they can do in terms of conquering everything is limited. I'll be giving the other factions some power too for balancing.

Soldier 2: "Wait what! Are they dying when he points at them?"

Soldier 1: "Uhhh... Yes they are"

Soldier 2: "Holy shit! Get the massive fucking mech!"
