Dazzling by Shimmering-Sword Dazzling by Shimmering-Sword
I decided to do another Elemental proportion exercise after the first one was received so well, and per some requests here's a frontal view. Based mostly on Nayora's suit, the left half is more complete than the right, because why do something twice :D
Slapped stripes on right at the end for fun, which gave me my title. And for some lulz, check out it's state 3.5 years ago: [link]

hey shimmering, do you 3d model? if not, i wouldnt mind giving this a go with the blender 3d program. i can't guarantee  it being completed, ever, but i figured i should at minimum get permission to give it a go.

It looks great. Funny how I could see the familiarity of the Elemental's helmet with the dragon helmet of MU Online. :) Keep up the good work! You're doing great!

as always, great work. I love to see the progression of the Elemental over the years, despite that the original design is still a really solid concept.

Nice but its that helmet that just looks so well invested in. I believe the helmet is a Signature to any suit.

How do you get the lines on your art so crisp? Also, what kind of opacity do you draw at?

Good hand control and careful painting goes a long way for crisp art. From there you can take a duplicate of all your layers merged and apply a highpass filter to it (using a very low pixel setting, depends on your resolution), setting that layer to overlay mode over your original work will sharpen all your edges.
I have my brushes opacity control set to my tablets pressure, so it's variable.

Very interesting. The original feels a bit more organic. This one feels more militaristic. Nothing wrong with that, of course. And the armor itself looks very flexible. Very fit. And very cool ^_^

Yeh, there are a lot of variations on the armor type. This character likes slightly more rugged equipment.

Nice, we get to see some sweet camo schemes!

What is the articulation on the toes? Also, how does the abdominal plating compare to the full plates in terms of protection, or say to the bodysuit in flexibility?

Toes are solid, just for show.
In between for the abdominals as you'd guess, there needs to be armor there but it must also be flexible. Not much less armored than the hard plate though, as the hard spaces are filled with gear too.

I just realized something, the halo 4 armor looks a helluva lot like you characters armor, the other ones, not specifically this one.

Oh hey~ You took my request. Makes me happy to see it. Everything looks so smooth and wellfitting, nothing looks out of place and those stripes are just interesting to look at. It's kind of like those moving optical illusions where they have you look at something for awhile and it becomes something else.

I like it! I cant' help but imagine the stripes as a moving patter like the planes in Yukikaze (If you haven't seen it, the enemy and some friendly planes get moving pink and black stripes when boosting, or, well they boost because of the stripes..I don't really know but it looks rather funky)
Anyway I can see her jumping about with that camo and being all elementaly (eleMENTAL?) ripping stuff apart and doing general acts of badassery.
Also, is there a reason every elemental you draw is female? just coincidence or is it something like starshiptroopers and their pilots?
whatever the answer great job 10/10 etc.

Yeah plot stuff for females, but I haven't decided on all the details yet. Baseline is they're more effective in that suit.

I've been wondering, what energy is emited by the generators on the back of the Elementals?

Hands on hips? Yup, its a fashion statement alright. But is there a more completely skinless Elemental. With lightweight black armor, for stealth? And maybe some claws for offense, and traversal. CAUSE THAT'LL BE COOL!!! Sorry my eyes widened a bit there, give me a sec.

:iconshimmering-sword:
Shimmering-Sword Featured By Owner Jan 23, 2013  Professional Digital Artist
Technically that can be done, but that's also approaching just making it a different model of suit. Also there's not much stealth involved with an Elemental because their power and shield generators are easy to detect.

See now you got my mouth watering, and I just ate. But there are many kinds of stealth. There's sneaky little mouse stealth. And then there's I'm so fast you can't see me, until its too late stealth. The ladder being my preferable form of stealth & otherwise assassination. Though I'm keen on both. Oh yea, just swap out the Elementals Xbox 360 generators, for Ps3 one's and then BAM! Crisis averted.

Ho boy, have I really known you that long? Btw for all your denying it you have gotten away from that appleseed-ish look for what it's worth. I would like to see a throw back to the more pod like design whenever you get some free time, seems like a good place to explore.

Not sure which pod look you refer to though, way back I was doing a ton of "once off" versions that never stuck.

Stripes are hard to look at. I've always wondered about the idea of camouflage that, instead of physically blending into the environment, instead has a psychological effect on the viewer that prevents them from seeing or getting a good shot at the target.
