The finished product definitely looks good. I do a lot of my work through referring to others work. Its how I practice. Its incredibly hard to do something truly original because we always draw our ideas from something we've experienced. So instead of nit picking originality I prefer to just make something good.
I would say the drawing is similar to an Metal Gear Solid 4 Muscle suit crossed with halo/storm trooper armour. Which fits the drawing wonderfully.
New, originality, ingenuity, etc; they are thrown around a lot lately while things that are "unoriginal" are made out to be money milkers.
Its probably related to American advancement demanding that things that are better are things that are different. As in different from Europeans... everything comes in circle now doesn't it; damn you Sociology courses! D=<
But your definitely right; being great can be better than being new.
Haha man, looks like Dark sicked on ya. I have to say, I don't think you've commented on any of my deviations without comparing it to something else. Now myself I don't mind, I like to know what people think, and could help me avoid overly major similarities. And in an open comment/critique system an artist should take everything in. Just be careful, it can come off as a "you're copying" or "thats unoriginal" in some eyes. An a similar note, you should start posting links to images that you are referring to so I can see what you mean, sometimes you leave me stumped.
I said it is similar...I can see similarities between things..even if they are supposedly not related...like a StG44 and AK-47 are similar in design. So does a Panzerfaust and an RPG-7. Although I will say your picture is "similar" it is also unique..my pictures tend to throw out..indentions to facial armor...so your drawings are uniquely in their own category...my stuff is more angular..and stark..your is more fluid and blended. So the idea is more similar in thought process but artistic flavor of work and application is different.
Well maybe you might want to be a little less broad with comparisons. (Example...) Power armor is similar to all other power armor due to it being powered, but making that comparison doesn't really have any merits. You could try pointing out what you like in a design, instead of similarities you see. Just trying to help out
That is okay...actually my INSIDERS don't use power armor so your safe..ha ha. They use some other interesting tech..which I am basing off of real life tech..and trying to actually build. Broad...maybe I was being a little too specific...sorry I have Asperger Syndrome...I don't always get the gist of things. At least I am not Michelangelo...that guy thinking he is better than everyone else...beats down anyone who even begins to compete with him.
Yes it will be even more interesting when a picture of this so called "INSIDER light infantry" suddenly appears in the next few weeks looking remarkably similar to this. Every image of these INSIDERs that I can find depict soldiers covered in cloaks or jackets, wielding melee weapons, and wearing darth vader or wolfenstein style helmets and masks... hardly what I would call very similar. I also could not find any image or character that was named an "INSIDER light infantry"
Forgive for being paranoid but it sounds like you were either trying to steal a concept or claiming theft. I feel trolled.
Its on a 3x5card...I am trying to find it. I drew it after seeing a picture in a book I study...of U.S. infantry on Jungle Warfare Training in Okinawa...the Book is Modern Combat Techniques...OH there is a similar profile to that idea as well...the INSIDER variants drawing...shows an INSIDER pilot and special operations type...that is very similar to the INSIDER Light Infantry.
Don't worry too much, Tribble seems to be my 'comparative' man, which I guess theres nothing wrong with someone keeping you in the know. Though this is the first time he's compared to his own work, making some design assumptions or misreads it's not hard to make comparisons, and maybe overstate them.
Yeah, I kinda think you're right I may have mistook his tone for accusatory. Rather than being similar in physical appearance, he may have been referring to "in concept". If that's the case, I apologize.
