So is he/she stabbing the guy, or supporting him? The other ones that look like the victim don't seem to be shooting him/her.

Not in profile views, and they're a little different in each painting. If you look around enough you'll get quite a few angles and ideas though.

Awsome job on the composition again, I love the close up of the hand and very wonderful detail with light and dark relationship of the helmet you can tell the sunlight is flashing on the middle guys face

Actually having a blade (energy or physical) as an auxiliary weapon is very practical. A knife is silent, it neither jams nor sticks and you don't have to reload it. It's significantly more effective than fists. Real soldiers, (particularly commandos) carry knives into combat all the time. (Not so much for snipers)
