Commission - Klingon Tank Destroyer by Shimmering-Sword Commission - Klingon Tank Destroyer by Shimmering-Sword
Another Star Trek fan commission for :iconmajordiarrhia: MajorDiarrhia

Light, fast, and cheap. This tank destroyer is given just enough armor to withstand light phaser fire, atmospheric entry, and sufficient shielding to take a single torpedo hit from a starship. Its impulse engines offer extreme maneuverability and speed in atmospheric flight. They are also less easily detected at long range than warp based systems, while being more easily detected at shorter ranges when at full output. A cloaking device makes up half the cost of the unit, and is the primary means of defense and of attack.

Armed with five weapons: its Bird of Prey derived anti-tank disruptor cannon, a chin mounted heavy disruptor for ground attack, a photon mortar for close in defense and non-line of sight attack, four surface-to-space mid-size photon torpedoes, and a sword wielded by an articulated arm.

I love it just as much as the Federation tank design! It looks like a vehicle the Klingons would build, and it's structure makes sense for Star Trek's universe.

My only minor peeve: I doubt a ship that small could even survive one torpedo from a Starship.

In the Star Trek universe, only the Klingon's would make tanks with built-in  swords. :D

I love it.

Hey that is OK.  Tank hunters are barely armored but heavy guns is a must.  This is the right combination.  Except for the Sword.  Only in Klingon space.  Now a chainsaw is the right choice.

You should draw a Klingon version of Cochranes warp ship... after you do a Romulan tank.

Hehe sure, someone just has to commission it :P (I don't have much personal interest in the setting, but I do enjoy it as a job)

I like it!
In all the different Star Trek Series (TOS, NG, D9, V, E) we never see ground vehicles of this kind, even when the Klingos, Star Fleet or the Djemhadar assault a fortified position, we never see a vehicle just some "red shirts" being shot.
Why is that so?
Not enough Bucks to build something?
Whats with CGI?

DS9 didn't have the cash to show proper ground warfare, Ronald D. Moore even commented on it at some point. It's the same reason why Game of Thrones usually has only one big battle per season, and glosses over visual action if it is greater than a handful of people fighting.

There are actually other things we should see as well, even TOS showed us a photon mortar, which indicates other sort of more practical combat weapons. Personal shields have been mentioned in DS9, while TNG had all sorts of non-combat personal shields, as well as Worf's jury rigged bullet proof shield he used in "
A Fistful of Datas." The closest we get to seeing a personal shield is a hockey puck size device which can block a passage way with a forcefield, used in the first episode where Picard is taken prisoner by Cardassians.

They also have things like exoskeletons, and once one considers the technology Data represents it kind of begs the existence of power armor. I would commission Starfleet power armor, except even though it makes sense, it seems too out of context with how we only ever see redshirts on the ground. That being said, a space worthy soft suit, with shield emitting vest, integrated tricorder in a helmet, powered exoskeleton, and Type IV phaser rifle might just fit. But, I'm not sure that's what I want.

Exactly, if everyone is just doing infantry assaults, anyone who threw in vehicles would get a major advantage. These designs throw in some logical mechanization.

Yes, but i have to say that somehow your design doesnt look that much "klingon".
I would expect something that looks more agressive, simple and intimidateing at the same time.

I think ill give the klingon tank a try myself :-)

why would a tank destroyer need a sword, and why would the klingons need a tank destroyer when tanks are practically nonexistent in the star trek universe? we may never know, but who the hell cares when it's this badass X3
