Battletech - Phalanx by Shimmering-Sword Battletech - Phalanx by Shimmering-Sword
Here's another, the first original design I made for the Battletech Marik XTRO.

Because everyone needs an amphibious, artillery, personnel carrier right?

All I remember is that it has a sniper artillery cannon and machine gun, is amphibious and carries infantry.

Sounds like a tank from our era. I like it! Didn't know they had a sniper artillery cannon though. How long is their range?

Well now as well we could call it an all-in-one vehicle, yes? Very nice, liking that bumps and stuff all around the tank.

Amphibious, artillery AND personell carrier? What, wasnt there room for the mobile comand post package as well?

Sarcasm aside, this is a really cool looking tank.

So I was just gonna say "MMM, BIG BOOMBA!!" and that I like the remote-controled mg up top. But then I read the description and saw that it's amphibious and a personnel carrier?!?! Some might say that this is trying to do too much, but hey whatevs, I dig it. X) Great job.

I'm not sure how my art requests/comments were passed along in XTRO:Marik (secondhand through Herb?), but you really hit the spot with the all-new Phalanx, Pandarus and Sarissa, not to mention tweaking the Awesome and Orion just as I'd hoped. The Phalanx, in particular, seems to have developed a following among BT fans for a sensible tank design rather than the rule-of-cool tank artwork used so widely in BT. So, from the XTRO:Marik author: thank you.

Hey, thanks for stopping by. It's good to hear about the community response, as I'm a bit isolated from that.
I followed the art and fluff notes in the word writeup I was provided, and got some feedback from Brent (not sure if he passed along insights or gave only his own). For the Phalanx I think the only critique was "more gun" :)
I really enjoyed the result on the Pandarus and Sarissa. I worried more that the Phalanx didn't have enough of said rule-of-cool, seeing as battletech is largely built upon that ideal, left me feeling that it was out of place. When it comes to designing tanks I'm extremely conservative, so if that is what you wish for in some cases you sure struck it lucky having me on the team.
Still waiting for some new BT art gigs to come around (especially wishing to do some full color mechs), haven't been able to illustrate any tech since this XTRO. Instead I'm getting a large volume of work from the fans, I think they might even commission more professional level content than Catalyst does :D

In BT parlance, the main gun is a "Sniper Artillery Cannon," where each shot (shell and powder) is 100kg. That's close to the 90kg shells used by the M115 203mm howitzer, so you're looking at about a 200-220mm weapon.

Spotter:"Well, what do you think?"
I:"I think you are dumb, if you are asking me this question."
Spotter:"What?!... I mean, why?"
I:"Cuz you are spotter and it's your duty to examine that thing, not my!"
Spotter:"Ok! Ok! I just want to know, can you take down that thing?"
I:"Well, if I would have one of particle beam rifle, that won't be problem."
Spotter:"But you don't have one, right?!"
I:"Let's just pass by."
Spotter:"Affirmative!"

Another scary vehicle, which i can't take down... WHEN THIS WILL END!
