What's odd is I was just looking over this illustration in TRO Prototypes just last night, and then I come across it here today. And I really dislike saying this, because looking over your gallery shows me you do some really good work, but... While I was looking it over, I was thinking how much I disliked this particular illustration. The whole thing just seems "off" to me. Maybe it's just that I'm too used to the older illustrations for it. But what really bugged me was that there's very little sense of how long the gauss barrel is. It just seemed like the weapon's muzzle was centrally located, barely poking out of the mid-section, and the machine has a weird looking side torso; instead of the barrel being long and off-set to the machine's side.
You're right, this isn't very good work for me. I blame it on lineart though, being made to work in this style really kills my design sense. A different viewing angle might show off the gauss better, though just in case you missed the detail it does occupy both the side and center torso, so it's not quite as offset as a usual Orion.
I'd love to see your take on the 'classic' orion, Hvy GR is cool but it seems to appear a bit ridiculous in certain designs, this one being one of them. The entire piece overall is amazing.
